The Society of Publishers in Asia, a Hong Kong-based not-for-profit organization dedicated to pursuing excellence in journalism, on Dec. 19 announced the call for entries for its “SOPA 2017 Awards for Editorial Excellence.”

The 2017 Awards, which include new categories for Excellence in Journalistic Innovation and Excellence in Video Reporting, represent a world-class benchmark to recognize the best practices in journalism in Asia Pacific, while driving journalistic innovation across international, regional and local media platforms in the region.

Recognizing the importance of high-quality media in all its forms, along with best practice in general, FleishmanHillard Hong Kong is pleased to be providing public relations support for the 2017 SOPA Awards on a pro bono basis.

SOPA’s work training future journalists and upholding the highest professional standards in media is clearly vital for a healthy society and economy. It’s also very important for the PR industry, the work we do and the clients we support. But as consumers too, this is important… it’s good to have something interesting, relevant and accurate to read in the paper each day.

Media will compete in 17 categories including Journalist of the Year, Excellence in Business Reporting and Excellence in Feature Writing. SOPA encourages entries from both large and small publications with entries classified by circulation and language type – English or Chinese. The 2016 Awards attracted more than 700 submissions, a record number.

Now open for entries, the deadline for submissions is 3pm on February 15, 2017. The award finalists will be announced in May 2017, with the winners announced at the SOPA Awards Gala Dinner on June 15.

Hong Kong remains the most vibrant and diverse media hub in the region. Reflecting the city’s role for the media sector, Invest Hong Kong is again Platinum Sponsor for the 2017 SOPA Awards. Google and Facebook are Gold Sponsors for the event.
