HONG KONG, September 2, 2016 – FleishmanHillard’s Hong Kong office marked the agency’s 70th  anniversary with a cocktail fundraiser for the Asian University for Women (AUW), entitled “Communicators for Change: Enabling Women on a Mission.” The event was part of FleishmanHillard’s global#FH4Inclusion initiative, aimed at uniting colleagues across its network to take action for social inclusion in their local communities, with the aim of providing USD 2 million in pro bono support this year.

Based in Bangladesh, AUW grants a fully underwritten world-class tertiary education to high-potential young women from 15 countries across Asia who are dedicated to drive meaningful social, political and economic change back home that will have an impact now and for generations to come. As an extension to ongoing pro bono work including media relations and event support for AUW, FleishmanHillard employees supported eight AUW students interning in Hong Kong this summer with media outreach and presentation coaching.

The event convened more than 60 guests from the public relations and marketing industry, as well as consulates, corporations, associations and media organizations, in an effort to raise awareness for women’s empowerment in Asia. With in-kind donations from clients and local brands for an exciting lucky draw, including a grand prize of Hong Kong Airlines business class tickets to Tokyo, the event successfully raised USD 4,500 in just two hours.

“FleishmanHillard has a long history of giving back to our communities, starting from our co-founders. We are proud to support the Asian University for Women by giving these inspiring young women a platform to share their stories with the Hong Kong community,” said Lynne Anne Davis, President of Asia Pacific, FleishmanHillard and Founding Board Member and Co-Chair, AUW Hong Kong Support Foundation. “This was the most meaningful way to mark our 70th anniversary and we are truly grateful for the tremendous support of #FH4Inclusion from our clients, partners and industry peers.”

To help the AUW students capture their inspiring stories in a short and engaging format, the FleishmanHillard team created a soundscape recording – “Voices in Your Head” – to convey the self-doubts, gender inequalities, social pressures and financial burdens many women like them must overcome to pursue higher education. Produced with pro bono support from award-winning music studio Click Music, this soundscape was played in a surprise lights-off moment at the event to immerse guests in the students’ journeys of growth before a moderated Q&A.
